Kiyosumi Garden is a calm landscape garden in eastern Tokyo, shaped in its present form during the Meiji era by the founder of Mitsubishi. It is less famous than several central Tokyo gardens, which is part of the appeal: the paths, pond, stones, and pavilions are easier to enjoy without heavy crowds.
The garden's old-looking pavilion dates from 1909, when it was built to host Lord Kitchener during his visit to Japan. It is a good quiet break between busier stops around the Sumida River, Ginza, or Asakusa.
