Dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken, and set in a 70-hectare forest of 100,000 donated trees on the border of Shibuya and Shinjuku. The 1920 shrine was destroyed in the war and rebuilt in 1958 in traditional style — wide wooden torii, gravel paths, and hushed cypress groves. One of Tokyo's most atmospheric places to escape the city, and your best chance of seeing a traditional Shinto wedding procession on weekends.
