Komiyama Shoten is the most respected of Jimbōchō's specialist dealers, with a reputation built on rare art books, vintage photography monographs, and out-of-print design and architecture titles. The stock includes genuinely significant material — first editions, limited-run photo books, exhibition catalogues no longer in print anywhere else — priced accordingly for serious collectors, though browsing costs nothing.
The shop occupies a multi-storey building typical of the area, with a small street-level display that gives only a hint of what's upstairs. Even without Japanese, the photography and art sections reward unhurried browsing.
