Zojo-ji is the head temple of the Jodo-shu Buddhist sect and one of Tokyo's most important temple complexes. Several Tokugawa shoguns are buried here, and the temple's broad grounds make a sharp contrast with Tokyo Tower rising just behind it.
It is especially atmospheric during cherry blossom season and during temple festivals. Even outside those periods, it is a worthwhile stop for a calmer view of central Tokyo's older religious landscape.
