While Tower Records closed everywhere else in the world, in Japan it thrived. The Shibuya flagship store is the largest music shop in the country, spread across nine floors in a building just off the main scramble crossing. The selection is enormous — J-pop, indie, classical, jazz, a deep vinyl section, and an entire floor of K-pop that draws fans from across Asia.
What makes it worth a visit even if you don't buy anything is the atmosphere. Each floor has listening stations, staff picks with handwritten recommendation cards, and in-store events with artists doing signings and mini-concerts. The top floor cafe is a good spot to rest after the sensory overload of Shibuya below.
