Yamatane Museum of Art specializes in modern nihonga, Japanese-style painting made with traditional materials and techniques. The collection is strong, but only a small selection is shown at any one time because many works are light-sensitive.
That rotating approach makes the museum better for focused art visitors than for checklist sightseeing. It is close enough to Ebisu and Shibuya to combine with either, and rewards anyone interested in the quieter side of modern Japanese art.
