Tashkent Zoo

Modern zoo on the northern edge of the city

The largest zoo in Central Asia, moved to its current site in 1997 and stocked with the usual range of mammals, birds, and reptiles. The animal enclosures are larger and better-maintained than at most regional zoos, and the place is laid out around a small lake.

A decent half-day option if you are travelling with children or want a break from earnest cultural visits. Combine with the Japanese Garden and TV Tower for a north-Tashkent loop.
