Antiques quarter with weekend market, chocolatiers, and galleries

The antiques quarter of Brussels, centred on the sloping Place du Grand Sablon and the Gothic Notre-Dame du Sablon church. The square fills with a genuinely good antiques market on weekend mornings, and the surrounding streets are lined with chocolatiers, galleries, and the old-school patisserie Wittamer. Downhill is the scruffier Marolles working-class district, with the daily flea market on Place du Jeu de Balle; Bruegel lived and was buried nearby. Above looms the vast Palais de Justice, reputedly the largest courthouse in the world.
