The Cruzeiro is the geographic high point of the Pilot Plan — the spot where, on 3 May 1957, the city's first mass was celebrated by Brasília's first archbishop, before any other building existed. A wooden cross still marks the spot, replaced from time to time but always in the same place.
Quiet and not really a tourist destination, but the cross — a simple monument with a wide western view over the Cerrado plateau — has more atmosphere than its modest appearance suggests. Worth a few minutes if you are passing en route to the TV Tower.
