Supreme Federal Court

The judiciary's home, mirror to the Planalto across the plaza

The Supremo Tribunal Federal sits opposite the Palácio do Planalto across the Three Powers Plaza, a deliberate mirror image: same low horizontal slab, same delicate columns. Niemeyer designed both palaces as a paired composition, expressing the constitutional balance between executive and judicial powers.

The seated bronze figure of Justice in front of the building — Alfredo Ceschiatti's A Justiça — has become a national symbol. Free tours are offered on Mondays in groups, with prior registration.
