Digital TV Tower

Niemeyer's last major Brasília work, a 182-metre flower-shaped tower

Niemeyer designed this 182-metre digital television tower late in his life — it was inaugurated in 2012, the year of his death at 104. Two side "flowers" attached to the main shaft house a viewing platform and a cultural space. The architect once said he wanted "to give Brasília a new tower, but not one that looks like the old one".

The platform at 80 metres is open to the public on weekends, with views out over the suburbs and back toward the Pilot Plan. The base hosts a small museum on Niemeyer and the construction of Brasília. Free entry.
