Charing Cross

Charing Cross is the central junction of the Mall, where Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam meets Egerton Road and Davis Road. The roundabout was originally crowned with a statue of Queen Victoria (now exiled to the Lahore Museum); it is currently dominated by a marble pavilion containing the Quran, with the cubic WAPDA House building looming behind.

The square is the symbolic heart of British and post-colonial Lahore — the Punjab Assembly is on the south side, Alhamra Arts Council to the east. Worth a stop on the Mall walk for the contrast between colonial and post-independence Pakistani architecture in a single view.
