A modest octagonal Mughal tomb in the courtyard of the Punjab Civil Secretariat — said to be the burial place of the legendary slave-girl Anarkali, walled up alive by Akbar in 1599 for her supposed love affair with Prince Salim (later Emperor Jahangir). The verifiable history is much more mundane: the building probably dates from around 1615, and may actually be the tomb of one of Jahangir's wives or perhaps another courtesan.
Access is restricted because the tomb sits within a government compound; you usually need to ask at the gate and may need ID. The building itself is a small but elegant piece of late Akbar-period architecture.
