Faletti's Hotel

Address 24 Egerton Road, Lahore

Faletti's, founded in 1880 by an Italian hotelier, was the grand hotel of Lahore for a century — the place where Kipling, Lord Curzon, Jinnah, and most of the British and post-colonial elite stayed. The building is a low whitewashed colonial structure built around a leafy garden, slightly down-at-heel today but full of period detail.

The hotel still operates; the bar is open to non-residents and is the best place in Lahore for a pre-prohibition drink (with a permit) and a quiet hour in the colonial garden. Worth a wander even if you are not staying.
