Data Darbar

The shrine of the 11th-century Sufi saint Ali Hujwiri — known as Data Ganj Bakhsh, "the giver of treasures" — is the most important shrine in Lahore and one of the most visited in South Asia. Pilgrims arrive at all hours; Thursday and Friday nights bring qawwali singers, langar (free communal meal), and a press of devotees that runs into thousands.

The complex has been heavily rebuilt — a large modern mosque was added in the 1980s — but the inner shrine, the saint's tomb, and the courtyard outside still feel like a living centre of Sufi devotion. Non-Muslims can visit the outer courtyard; ID and security checks are routine after the 2010 bombing.
