Mozart Wohnhaus

The "Tanzmeisterhaus" on Makartplatz is where the Mozart family lived from 1773 to 1787, the years of Wolfgang's growing fame. The original building was destroyed by an Allied bomb in 1944 and faithfully reconstructed for the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth.

The exhibition is less of a draw than Getreidegasse 9 but has the original family pianoforte and the only known surviving Mozart hand cast. The audio guide narrates from family letters, which is unexpectedly moving.
