Zwerglgarten (Dwarf Garden)

Tucked into the Mirabell Gardens beside the Pegasus fountain is a small terraced lawn lined with 17th-century marble statues of dwarves — twenty-eight grimacing, grotesque figures originally commissioned by Prince-Archbishop Franz Anton von Harrach. Many were modelled on real people with dwarfism kept at the archbishop's court as entertainers.

The garden was closed and the statues scattered in 1811 by Empress Caroline Augusta, who found them offensive. Most of the surviving figures were reassembled here in 1919.
