Across the Salzach on the right bank, the "New Town" — actually only "new" in 17th-century terms — has the Mirabell Palace and gardens, the Mozart family home, the Marionette Theatre, and St Sebastian's Cemetery. The streets are wider, the tourists fewer, and the prices noticeably lower than in the old town.
The main artery is Linzergasse, a long pedestrian street that runs east from the river towards Kapuzinerberg. Steingasse, the parallel street one block south, is the oldest part of the right bank — a narrow medieval lane with several of the city's best bars.
