Salzburg's modern art museum sits on top of the Mönchsberg at the end of the lift ride from the old town. The clean white travertine building, finished in 2004, holds rotating exhibitions of 20th- and 21st-century art — strong on Austrian and German postwar painting, Vienna Aktionism, and contemporary photography.
The terrace cafe and restaurant has the best lunch view in Salzburg — over the old town, the Festung, and out to the Untersberg. Closed Mondays.
