Looshaus is one of Vienna's key early modern buildings, designed by Adolf Loos and completed in 1909 opposite the Hofburg. Its plain facade shocked many Viennese when it was built, precisely because it rejected the ornament expected in the imperial centre.
The building is now used by a bank, but a small permanent display explains its history. Even from the outside, it is a useful stop for understanding how Vienna moved from Ringstrasse grandeur toward modern architecture.
