KODE is the collective name for Bergen's four art museums arranged around Lille Lungegårdsvann, the small lake in the centre of the city. Together they form one of the largest art collections in Scandinavia. The collection is strongest in Norwegian painting — Edvard Munch, Lars Hertervig, and the Bergen School landscape painters are all well represented — with a good international section including Picasso ceramics, Russian icons, and works by Klee and Kandinsky.
A single ticket covers all four buildings. The main building (KODE 3) has the best overview of Norwegian art. If you only have time for one room, the Rasmus Meyer Collection in KODE 2 — assembled by a Bergen merchant in the early 20th century and including forty Munch works — is exceptional.
