Naturhistorisk Museum Bergen

The University of Bergen's Natural History Museum, in the museum quarter near Nygårdsparken, holds extensive geological and zoological collections focused on western Norway's extraordinary natural environment. The whale skeleton in the main hall is a perennial favourite; the geology collection explains how the fjords were carved and why Bergen's mountains have the shapes they do.

The surrounding university park (Nygårdsparken) is Bergen's main green space and worth a wander in its own right — good benches, a small lake, and considerably less tourist traffic than the waterfront.
