St. Jørgen's Hospital

St. Jørgen's Hospital is one of northern Europe's rare surviving leprosy hospitals, preserved in a wooden complex with a small church. The museum tells a hard but important story: this was where Armauer Hansen identified the bacterium that causes leprosy in 1873, changing how the disease was understood.

The old wards, patient records, and simple rooms make the visit more intimate than polished. It is one of Bergen's most affecting museums, especially if you are interested in medical history or the quieter edges of the city's past.
