Fish Market (Fisketorget)

The Bergen Fish Market at Torget, at the head of the Vågen harbour next to Bryggen, is one of the most photographed spots in Norway. Vendors sell fresh salmon, crab, prawns, and dried fish, with a few stalls offering smoked whale and seal meat for the curious. Prices are tourist-level and the vendors know it, but the setting — open harbour, colourful boats, Bryggen's wooden facades in the background — is undeniably good.

The covered market hall behind the outdoor stalls operates year-round and is the better option in rain (Bergen has a great deal of that). Pick up a smoked salmon sandwich, a portion of crab claws, or a paper cone of fresh prawns and eat at the water's edge.
