Powązki Communal Cemetery

Powązki Communal Cemetery is one of Warsaw's major memory landscapes, separate from the older Catholic Powązki Cemetery nearby. Its Avenue of the Meritorious honours artists, politicians, soldiers, and public figures from modern Polish history.

The cemetery also holds graves connected to the November and January uprisings, the Polish-Soviet War, the Second World War, and the Warsaw Uprising. It is a sober, worthwhile stop if you are tracing the city's 19th- and 20th-century history.
