St. Anne's Church

Gothic church at the foot of the Royal Route with a belltower offering the best view of Castle Square

St. Anne's Church on Krakowskie Przedmieście is one of the oldest churches in Warsaw, originally founded in 1454 and rebuilt repeatedly over the centuries. The current facade is Neoclassical, added in the 19th century, while the interior retains Baroque decoration. The church survived the war and is one of the few in the city with an intact historic interior.

The attached belltower (accessible for a fee) gives the best elevated view of Castle Square and the Old Town from the south — a view that was used in many pre-war photographs and paintings. The church is at the junction of Krakowskie Przedmieście and Miodowa, marking the start of the Royal Route.
