The world's shortest railway -- a funicular that climbs 298 feet up Bunker Hill -- has been a Downtown fixture since 1901, though it has had a rocky history of closures and accidents. Today it runs again, offering a brief but charming ride between Hill Street and California Plaza for just $1 each way. The two original orange-and-black cable cars, named Olivet and Sinai, are as photogenic as ever.
The ride takes less than a minute, but the novelty is real. At the top, you're steps from the Broad museum and Walt Disney Concert Hall. At the bottom, Grand Central Market is right across the street -- combine the three for an easy Downtown morning.
