Chinatown

Historic district blending old noodle shops with new galleries

LA's Chinatown — just north of Downtown — is more of a historic district than a living ethnic enclave. Most of the Chinese community has long since relocated to the San Gabriel Valley, but the streets retain a certain character: ornate gates, noodle shops, and herb stores mixed with a newer wave of art galleries. The Empress Pavilion is the go-to for dim sum if you visit on a weekend.
