Built in 1939 in a style that blends Mission Revival, Streamline Moderne, and Dutch Colonial elements, Union Station is widely regarded as the last of the great American railroad stations. The main waiting hall — with its leather armchairs, marble floors, and 52-foot-high coffered ceiling — is remarkable. Trains still run (Amtrak and Metrolink), which makes this one of the few historic stations you can actually use rather than just admire.
