Mulholland Drive

Mulholland Drive is the classic ridge road above Los Angeles, winding through the Hollywood Hills with views over the city, the San Fernando Valley, and on clear days far beyond. It is most useful if you have a car and want to understand how the city spreads between the hills and the basin.

The drive is at its best around sunset or after dark, when the lights make the size of Los Angeles easier to grasp. Pullouts and overlooks vary, so take your time and do not stop where parking is unsafe.
