Ballona Wetlands

The Ballona Wetlands are a rare remnant of the marshland that once covered much of the low-lying coast around Marina del Rey and Playa del Rey. The reserve protects freshwater marsh, salt marsh, and coastal habitat used by native birds and plants.

The easiest public taste is the trail along the freshwater marsh near Lincoln and Jefferson, with signs explaining the habitat. Guided walks and volunteer restoration days sometimes offer access to areas that are otherwise closed.
