The Broad

A free contemporary art museum opposite Disney Concert Hall, opened in 2015 to house the collection of Eli and Edythe Broad. The galleries are deliberately white and over-lit — partly architectural choice, partly because the works are so famous they need no introduction.

The Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror Room is the most coveted piece and requires a separate same-day timed ticket, picked up at the museum entrance. Free admission to the main galleries, but book online weeks ahead to avoid waiting.

A story
The white perforated "veil and vault" facade by Diller Scofidio + Renfro hides Eli Broad's private contemporary art holdings — Warhol, Koons, Sherman, Lichtenstein, Basquiat, all of them at top-of-the-market quantities. Admission is free because Broad wanted it that way; reservations are essential because everyone else discovered that.
