Five Lotus Spring Park

The Five Lotus Spring Park occupies the northeast corner of the old city near Daming Lake, centered on a cluster of five interconnected spring pools that bubble up through the limestone in a compact group. The park has a classical garden layout with pavilions, stone bridges, and the kind of willow-hung water scenery that Jinan does better than anywhere else in northern China.

The Five Lotus Spring is one of the named springs that Jinan's tourist literature refers to when it claims "72 springs" — the number is traditional rather than precise, but represents the dozens of distinct upwellings that characterize the city's karst hydrology. This park is slightly less visited than Baotu Spring and correspondingly more peaceful; the quality of the spring water and the garden design is comparable.
