Shandong Folk Arts Museum

The Shandong Folk Arts Museum covers the traditional craft and material culture of the province — agricultural tools, household objects, festival items, and the regional embroidery, woodcarving, and ceramics that distinguished Shandong's different districts. The collection is strongest on the late Qing and early Republican periods, when traditional crafts were still in daily use.

This is the kind of museum that repays slow looking: the objects are mundane individually but collectively build a picture of how ordinary people in Shandong lived before industrialisation. The embroidery collection is particularly good, with examples of the different regional styles and the techniques used to produce them. Free entry.
