Wanshou Palace (Ten Thousand Longevity Palace) is a Taoist temple complex in the old city west of the spring district, associated with the Quanzhen sect of Taoism and dating in its current form from the Qing Dynasty. The complex includes the main hall, several auxiliary buildings, and a courtyard with ancient ginkgo trees that are thought to be several hundred years old.
The palace is in active religious use and has a particular atmosphere on festival days when Taoist priests perform ceremonies in the main hall. The ginkgo trees are spectacular in autumn, turning bright gold; their age and scale give the courtyard a gravity that the rebuilt architecture alone cannot provide. Worth including in a walk through the old city.
