Yanzishan Park occupies a low hill in the northern part of central Jinan, providing elevated views over the city and Daming Lake from a relatively accessible summit. The park is a local green space rather than a major tourist attraction — a pleasant half-hour of walking through tree-shaded paths with benches and open-air exercise equipment — but the views from the hilltop pavilion toward Daming Lake and the spring district to the south are genuinely good.
The park is at its best in spring when the flowering trees are in bloom, and in autumn when the foliage turns. It is also a good place to observe the tai chi, dance, and outdoor exercise culture that characterizes Chinese urban park life: the early-morning scene involves dozens of separate groups doing different activities simultaneously, from ballroom dancing to sword exercise to the slow-motion forms of tai chi.
