Zhenzhu Spring (Pearl Spring)

Zhenzhu Spring — Pearl Spring — is named for the strings of bubbles that rise from the sandy bottom of the pool, catching the light like pearls as they rise. The spring is set within a historic compound in the old city north of Baotu Spring that was once a Ming Dynasty palace; the buildings around it are among the most atmospheric historic structures surviving in central Jinan.

The spring complex is smaller and quieter than Baotu, and its position within the old palace compound gives it a different character — more enclosed and domestic, the water bubbling up in a courtyard garden rather than an open park. It is a good follow-up to Baotu for those interested in seeing how different the individual springs look from each other. Entry is modest, around ¥10.
