Housed in the Gedung Merdeka (Freedom Building), this museum commemorates the 1955 Bandung Conference — the first major gathering of newly independent Asian and African nations, chaired by Indonesia's president Sukarno. Twenty-nine countries attended; the conference laid the groundwork for the Non-Aligned Movement. The main conference hall has been preserved exactly as it was, with the original flags and seating, and the exhibits document how colonialism was unraveling across two continents simultaneously. A genuinely important piece of 20th-century history, and well presented. Free admission.
