Asia-Afrika Walk

Pedestrianised colonial avenue lined with restored 1920s buildings

The block of Jalan Asia-Afrika between Braga and the Alun-Alun has been pedestrianised and treated as an open-air museum of Bandung's colonial-era architecture. Cast-iron benches, period lampposts, and bronze flags representing the 29 nations of the 1955 conference line the route. The Gedung Merdeka, Savoy Homann hotel, and the Bank Indonesia building (a strict 1920s neo-classical pile) are all here.

Best at golden hour, when the low sun lights the white facades and the street fills with locals strolling, taking photos, and posing in front of the conference flags. Several cafes on the pedestrian section have outdoor tables — a pleasant place to sit with a coffee.
