Punclut — a contraction of Puncak Ciumbuleuit — is the ridge above the Ciumbuleuit suburb of north Bandung. The road that climbs to the top is lined with simple Sundanese warungs and a handful of cafes, all positioned for the view back over the city. The best spots are 2–3km past the Hotel Sheraton; ask for warung pemandangan (view-warung) and you will be pointed in the right direction.
Order nasi merah (red rice with sambal and grilled chicken) for the classic version, or just a cup of coffee. Best around sunset, when the lights of Bandung start coming on across the basin. Take a jacket — at over 1,200 metres the air is sharply cool after dark.
