Sri Baduga Museum

West Java's main state museum, focused on Sundanese history and culture

The Sri Baduga is the West Java provincial museum, named after the 15th-century king of the Sundanese Pakuan Pajajaran kingdom. Three floors of exhibits walk through the geology of the province, archaeological finds from the megalithic period, the spread of Hindu-Buddhist and Islamic influence, and the textile and music traditions that survive today. The collection of wayang golek puppets and kujang daggers is particularly strong.

Less polished than the major museums in Jakarta, but well laid out and quiet enough that you can take your time. Captioning is mostly in Indonesian with patchy English; pick up the printed guide at the entrance if you read English only. Jalan B.K.R. 185, in the Tegallega area south of the centre.
