Geological Museum

Dutch colonial museum with Indonesian geology and Homo erectus fossils

One of the better natural history museums in Indonesia, housed in a Dutch colonial building from 1928. The collection covers the geology of the Indonesian archipelago — the volcanoes, the tectonic plates, the earthquakes — with fossils, mineral samples, and scale models. The star exhibit is a cast of a Homo erectus skull found at Sangiran in Central Java, one of the most important hominid fossil sites in the world. Free admission and rarely crowded. Open Monday to Saturday.
