Bandung Railway Station

Colonial-era station with intricate detailing, still the main rail hub

Bandung's main station — known locally as Stasiun Hall — is a working slice of Dutch East Indies engineering, opened in 1884 and substantially rebuilt in 1928 in a refined Art Deco style. The south building retains its colonial-era details: tiled floors, painted iron columns, and the original ticket windows. The Argo Parahyangan train to Jakarta departs from here several times a day, and the platforms make for unexpectedly photogenic wandering — particularly the curved canopy on platform one.

A small railway museum near the north entrance tells the story of the Staatsspoorwegen network that opened up the West Java highlands in the late 19th century. Useful even if you are not catching a train, since the station sits a short walk from the city centre and the food stalls on the surrounding streets are good for breakfast nasi kuning.
