Ciater Hot Springs

Sulphurous natural pools in a tea plantation north of Tangkuban Perahu

A natural thermal spring complex about 7km north of Tangkuban Perahu, set on a tea plantation in the Subang regency. Water heated by volcanic activity flows out at around 45°C, channelled through a series of public and private pools. The setting — tea bushes on terraced slopes, occasional cloud, the smell of sulphur in the air — is more striking than the resort itself.

Combine with a morning at Tangkuban Perahu for a tidy day trip. The drive between them passes through one of the most photogenic stretches of tea country in West Java; stop at the Sari Ater plantation lookout if it is clear.
