Asia University Museum of Modern Art

The Asia University Museum of Modern Art sits on the eastern campus of Asia University in Wufeng, about half an hour south of central Taichung. Tadao Ando's building, opened in 2013, is one of the most striking pieces of architecture in central Taiwan and worth the trip for the building alone.

The collection is small but well-chosen, with a focus on twentieth-century European and Taiwanese sculpture and rotating exhibitions of contemporary Asian art. A Rodin cast and a Henry Moore are usually on display in the entrance hall.

A story
The museum was designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, his first commission in Taiwan, and the building is the standout in his career library of triangular concrete forms. Three stacked equilateral triangles rotated against each other create a triangular central courtyard with a single tree in the middle.
