Shenji New Village (also known as the Audit New Village) is a cluster of preserved 1960s civil servants' housing in the centre of the city, now used as a cluster of independent design shops, ramen and matcha cafés, and weekend markets. The single-storey brick buildings are arranged around alleys and small gardens.
It is one of the best of the city's redeveloped colonial-period dormitory complexes — small enough to walk through quickly, but with enough independent shops to fill an afternoon. Free, with individual shops open from late morning to early evening.
