Wufeng Mushroom Museum

The Wufeng Mushroom Museum is a small, eccentric institution about half an hour south of Taichung, focused entirely on cultivated and wild fungi. The exhibition runs from the basic biology of fungi through traditional Asian uses, the cultivation of shiitake and king oyster mushrooms, and to recent research on mycelium-based bioacoustics — the so-called talking mushrooms.

It is the kind of museum that makes more sense in person than it does on paper. The combination of dry science and weirder corners, plus a small farm-shop selling fresh mushrooms, makes it a good half-day add-on to a Wufeng visit.
