Břevnov Monastery

Bohemia's oldest monastery with its own brewery since 993

Address Markétská 28/1, Prague 6

The oldest monastery in Bohemia, founded in 993, on the western edge of Prague about 4 km from the castle. The Baroque church and cloisters are the work of Kryštof and Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer, father and son of Prague's Baroque generation. Much quieter than Strahov and rewards the trip out; the monastery brewery (in operation since 993) has been revived and serves its own beer in the garden.
