The Troja Chateau, built between 1679 and 1691 for the Šternberk family as a summer residence outside Prague, is the finest baroque country house in the city's surroundings. The exterior staircase, flanked by Titans wrestling with giants, is remarkable; the main hall inside is covered from floor to ceiling with frescoes glorifying the Habsburg dynasty.

The chateau now belongs to the city of Prague and houses a collection of 19th-century Czech painting. It combines well with the neighbouring Prague Zoo and the Prague Botanical Garden, both within walking distance. The setting is suburban but the gardens around the chateau retain the formal baroque layout.
