Holešovice is Prague's creative district — a former industrial neighbourhood north of the city centre that has reinvented itself since the 1990s as the city's art and culture hub. The neighbourhood centres on the vast Veletržní Palace, a 1920s Functionalist trade fair building that now houses the National Gallery's modern art collection and Mucha's Slav Epic. The adjacent Holešovice Market (Holešovická tržnice) has been partially converted into a cultural space with bars, galleries, and food vendors.
Cross Club, a legendary three-floor venue built entirely from salvaged industrial equipment, anchors the nightlife scene. The neighbourhood is gentrifying — new restaurants and coffee shops appear regularly — but retains a rougher, more authentic energy than the heavily touristed centre. DOX, an independent contemporary art centre, has made Holešovice a serious destination for anyone interested in current art. The Letná park above the neighbourhood offers the best sunset views over the Old Town and the river.
